It's Monday morning, but it sure doesn't feel like it. I'm on a mini vacation with my family in snowy Leavenworth, WA. I do not have a case of the Mondays.
This weekend reminds me that I need to take my family on more vacations. We've made great memories in some great places like Sea World, Sedona, the Disney parks, Mexico, Deception Pass, and Whistler. Many of my girls' best memories come from these places and this weekend has been no exception.
But my 9 year-old is half-way to adulthood, and we haven't come close to taking our family to all of the places we want to, like New York, WA DC, Scandinavia, Israel, Italy, Greece, India, Hawaii, The Philippines... It's not that we have to visit all of these places. I just know how much we'll grow and how many more memories we'll make if we do.
My mistake over the years has been the pride of believing that things will fall apart at work if I take too much vacation time. The truth is that things almost never fall apart, and I almost always come back refreshed with new and better ideas for work, and a more tightly knit family at home.
